Computer Business Review Online: Mandriva outlines new products as founder threatens legal action
I am sad that it had to come to this.
But this distro sure did things for GNU/Linux that make what GNU/Linux is today. Ease of use was one its major contributions. Mandrake 7.2 was what I started with and boy was I amazed at its ability to detect hardware and install the required software. RedHat 6.2 was my choice prior to this and setting up your vga was such a pain.
Diskdrake was like wow because even 'Windows' still does not have anything comparable. Most things worked outta the box.
Mandrake was like a revelation then. And I've stayed with it until now. But as in life nothing ever remains the same. One has to move on or is forced to move on.
I have tried out Ubuntu/Kubuntu and PCLinuxOS and they sure give me the same feeling I had when I started with Mandrake. Though I don't plan on giving up on Mandriva entirely.
Server side I would probably make a choice between Mandriva and Fedora while on the desktop PCLinuxOS (I love the ability to install the live cd on to my harddisk and it uses diskdrake for advanced users) and Ubuntu/Kubuntu would be my choices.
I think I have to eat a few of those words above.
After using Mandriva Linux 2006 I have decided that I shall keep my options open on it. I like the real fast install it manages.
